All interested students MUST sign up to audition here.

Thursday, September 5 – Optional Meet the Director & Info Session

Tuesday, September 10 – Audition Component: Individual Standard Performance

Each singer who signs up to audition will receive an assigned 3 minute audition slot on Tuesday, September 10th during the 0 period hour (7:30 – 8:30am).

During their assigned time, students will perform a jazz standard that they have selected and prepared. If possible, students should use a background track (YouTube is fine; please contact the director if you need assistance finding a track in the right key/tempo). Students may also sing a cappella if they choose.

If you need help choosing a standard or finding a backing track, contact Ms. Woodbury at rlwoodbury@seattleschools.org and she can help you!

You can find a list of recommended standards here, but feel free to choose a standard not on that list as well.

Wednesday, September 11 – Audition Component: Ensemble Performance

All singers will learn 8 bars of a vocal jazz chart on their chosen voice part (Soprano, Alto, or Baritone).  Auditioning singers will perform their part with other singers in a variety of combinations, including with one student on a part. Ms. Woodbury will be listening for style, sense of ensemble, part independence, and blend between voices.
