Singers who enjoy jazz will love the Roosevelt Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Students learn to perform standard vocal jazz arrangements and jazz improvisational techniques. Backed by a small combo, the group is open to students in grades 9-12. It stresses teamwork, dedication and harmony. Sight reading and prior vocal performance experience is preferred but not required. Under the direction of Rebecca Woodbury, the group meets thrice weekly before school, and travels to festivals and competitions throughout the western United States. Auditions are held each spring.
