Roosevelt Jazz Band to be in Hot Java Cool Jazz 2022

Congratulations to Director Scott Brown and the students of Jazz Band 1! They will have the honor of playing in the Starbucks Hot Java Cool Jazz concert at the Paramount Theater on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., along with Edmonds-Woodway, Garfield, Mount Si and Mountlake Terrace high schools.

Plans are underway for a LIVE, in-person event and following county guidelines for maximum COVID safety. Tickets are not yet on sale; details on how to purchase tickets will be posted in January. For now, save the date! We hope to see you there for this swinging evening of jazz.

A huge thank you to Starbucks for their sponsorship of this event, which raises tens of thousands of dollars for jazz education in Seattle, year after year. Time for a Peppermint Mocha…

We’re Back!

As our jazz band director Scott Brown proclaimed at our swinging Jazz Nutcracker performance on Dec. 4, Roosevelt Jazz is back!

Next up, our jazz ensembles are performing at the Royal Room in Columbia City, and then back onstage at Roosevelt High School for Jazz Night Dec. 9 (check your email for ticket info — Roosevelt families only).

For the 22nd year, The Band will perform Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s swinging Jazz Nutcracker Suite, in Roosevelt’s Performing Arts Theatre.

IMPORTANT COVID SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
In accordance with the October 25th King County Health mandate:
*To be admitted to Roosevelt’s INDOOR performances, only ADULT and SENIOR ticket holders need to show proof of vaccination (“P.O.V.”).
*Children and Students 12-18 do not need to show proof of vaccination.
*Universal masking required for audience members in the school and in the theatre.
*Theatre capacity is limited.  Ticket holders shall be seated in “family units” or “pods” of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 seats.
*All attendees must complete a health screening and show the green check mark to ushers upon entry.  (QR code link will be posted outside the show).

Live Jazz and Holiday Traditions Return!

Our jazz bands are taking the stage in December as in-person performances resume at Roosevelt! JB1 will perform its time-honored Jazz Nutcracker to the music of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn Dec. 4 at 7:30p.m. and Dec. 5 at 2pm. Then all four RHS jazz ensembles will show off their latest repertoire at Jazz Night, Thursday Dec. 9.

Seating will be assigned for all concerts and capacity will be limited in response to public health guidelines. We’ll be asking for volunteers to make these concerts a successful return to live performance!

All-Jazz Bands Retreat This Saturday!

The jazz retreat has always been a highlight of the school year, a special opportunity to play with students outside your usual ensemble and to receive feedback from top clinicians. And it’s back! This year’s retreat will take place at RHS all day Saturday Nov. 13 from 9am to 7pm. It will be an intense day of music, learning, socializing and fun!
Schedule includes a faculty concert before dinner, followed by a closing concert featuring vocal jazz students and three big bands.
