Lots going on as we near the end of an amazing schoolyear!

Auditions will take place May 31-June 5 for placement in next year’s jazz and vocal jazz ensembles! This includes rising ninth graders.  More info and signup details here!

Roosevelt JB1 makes the list for Essentially Ellington!

Way to go, Roosevelt! Director Scott Brown said it best: “Congrats to our Roosevelt Jazz Band students for being accepted by blind audition as Essentially Ellington Finalists for 2022! Congrats also to Bothell and Mt. Si, whose jazz bands were the other two chosen from our region.” A total of 15 bands have been invited to participate in the 27th annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival to be held May 5-7 at Lincoln Center in NYC. All ensembles will perform live from Roosevelt Theater for a festive stream-cast event hosted by auctioneer and emcee, Nelson Jay. Registration is free, so tell family, friends and far-flung supporters to mark their calendars, tune in, and browse our silent auction while they enjoy great live performances and help make our biggest fundraiser of the year a success!

Roosevelt Jazz Band to be in Hot Java Cool Jazz 2022

Congratulations to Director Scott Brown and the students of Jazz Band 1! They will have the honor of playing in the Starbucks Hot Java Cool Jazz concert at the Paramount Theater on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., along with Edmonds-Woodway, Garfield, Mount Si and Mountlake Terrace high schools.

Plans are underway for a LIVE, in-person event and following county guidelines for maximum COVID safety. Tickets are not yet on sale; details on how to purchase tickets will be posted in January. For now, save the date! We hope to see you there for this swinging evening of jazz.

A huge thank you to Starbucks for their sponsorship of this event, which raises tens of thousands of dollars for jazz education in Seattle, year after year. Time for a Peppermint Mocha…
